Sodium silicates are well-known corrosion inhibitors for drinking water systems. They have been used successfully for this purpose for over 90 years. Sodium silicates can be used as the sole active ingredient - addition of phosphate or other substances is not necessary.

Drinking water quality
Our INOSIL products are approved as direct additives for drinking water according to DIN EN 1203:2005 and DIN EN 1209:2004.
INOSIL is suitable for corrosion protection in all metal drinking water systems. The pure sodium silicate is used in both cold and hot water circuits. ln the hot water circuit, it can also be combined with phosphates if required.
For the treatment of metal pipes in the cold and hot water sector, the directly applicable silicates of the types INOSIL 120 and INOSIL 121 are recommended. Depending on the requirements, they can also be applied diluted. For hot water applications, the phosphate-based INOSIL 820 and INOSIL 821 are recommended.

The sodium silicates added to the water react with the metal surface of the pipes and form a durable protective layer provided that the addition is continued. Sodium silicates can be used as the sole active ingredient - it is not necessary to add phosphate or other substances.
In the cold water circuit, sodium silicates are the agent of choice. For hot water, the use of combined silicate/phosphate products is recommended; in these, the silicate provides corrosion protection and the phosphate reduces limescale deposits.
